Tool for Vertical Curve Geometry
Given the four independent variables (Speed, Incoming and Outgoing Grade and Length of Curve) all the derived values are presented and checked against CalTrans HDM Section 201.
Uses HEC-22 to calculate capture for inlets having the grate offset from the gutter line (interior bypass).
The primary changes from the standard CalTrans Green Sheet are:
Uncaptured opportunities
There are some opportunities for further cleanup.
For example, the area percentage calcs are based on knowing the ratio of a given type to the total area. The reality is that the area is known first and then calculated as a percentage later. It makes sense to let the spreadsheet calculate this (paper trail (in-place calc), less transcribing, and easier to QC against the area source (dgn).
One argument against this change in the Green Sheet is that the review is looking at something new and therefore doesn't have confidence in the methodologies used here. My argument is that since the original is completely unlocked, there is no guarantee whatsoever that the equations haven't been intentionally or unintentionally changed. We can lock down the equation fields so that they're not accidentally changed.
